Lumbar Support for a Healthy Back

Every minute you slouch, you're putting unneeded stress on your lower back. Lumbar support can help you end the slouching habit, but what's the best way to do that?

Give your back a break when you sit. The best way is to bring your shoulders back. Lean your hips forward so that there's a small curve in your lower back. Put your feet squarely on the floor.

To make sure there's a small curve in your lower back, you can put a small pillow behind it. Roll up a towel. Or place a special lumbar roll there.

Make your knees level with your hips when you sit. You may need something to place your feet on that raises up your knees. Otherwise, lower your chair.

In your car, keep your knees level with your hips. Bring your seat forward to accomplish this. Put both hands on the wheel. It will help you sit straight. Keep your arms slightly flexed. To keep a small curve in your lower back, you may want to use a small pillow, lumbar support, etc.

Don't sit for a long time. Take breaks; get up and move around.

Consider a kneeling chair that tilts your hips forward.

Consider sitting on an exercise ball instead of a chair. This encourages you to lean forward, move slightly, and strengthen your back by supporting yourself properly.
